Sorry Alex, I didn't get the baseball reference, I guess you can tell I am not a baseball fan (tongue in cheek) I prefer watching sports like Hockey, soccer, football, swimming--I used to swim pretty competitively-- had you made references to those sports I would have surely gotten it.

Great recap... where were these all season?
You should have mentioned that Marc ended the night begging to play Lenderman in the playoff... Will we see a rematch?

Great recap Ilya. FWIW I threw out the two GM lineup (which necessitates using Esserman and Ilya) because there was still a chance we could finish 2nd if we won by 2 1/2 points more than Carolina lost. We certainly did our part! I also wanted to send Queens a message like Khan said in Star Trek II just before firing phasers, "Explain it to them." That we did.

It's also nice to finish the season strong and on a roll.

The crowd got a great game by Larry; Phillip got to relay a game for Eugene (he likes Kramnik's style, so Eugene's suits him :) ), the big "Battle of the 'Man's (Esser vs. Lender), and of course the always exciting Klassic Krasik! Oh, and we had free beer too. What a night.

Dear Ilya:
I thought it was clear enough that when I used the comment I did in the interview about Boston, it reflected on the Boston Red Sox, and also I know Elizabeth Vicary supports NY knights, so I knew she would like tto hear that. I even commented on it on Elizabeth's blog when someone asked me about it, so I don't understand why is there still confusion; it was more like a joke. As far as Esserman, I have never publically said he has no technique or even when I was talking to you, I never said it, I did say openings and unbalanced positions I always knew is defintiely his biggest strengths, but I respected all parts of his game. But "no technique" I never said that, I said that his endgame in an even endgame might not be the strongest point, if it's not unbalanced, and the games he beat me, he played very well, and his technique was good, but probably not great, but imagine if that same endgame I would've not been up a pawn, that wouldn't be the same. Anyway, I think Mark played very well in our game after a tough opening and found some great ideas to create complications. And as far as his strength, I just said, if he doesn't get to the position Mark enjoys to play, and it's not unbalanced, Mark's strength drops, but that's normal, it's similar with people like Tate, Jay Bonin, etc... It's just a style. I have a weakness, that i don't have enough of Esserman's style, or current opening knowledge. and that's why my record against GM's is lower than average for IM's.

I am glad someone has finally pointed out what loose
cannons both John Bartholemew and Greg Shahade really are. And I'm sure Carolina
won't mind what you said about the weakness. They probably agree, secretly.
But seriously, I thought this blog entry was fantastic--
interesting, informative, entertaining. Bravo!
The world will be a better place when Ilya starts his own blog.
