Boston Blitz Management Changes

Effective immediately Jorge Sammour-Hasbun is now the Manager of the Boston Blitz. Jorge will handle all player personnel decisions henceforth, including team makeup and lineup determination. Jorge has been acting in this capacity unofficially since the 2008 playoffs started.

Matt Phelps will move to Assistant Manager and continue to take care of all the logistical and technical considerations. “I would like to thank Mark LaRocca, whom I’m replacing, for his time as Assistant Manager. His help with relaying, game analysis articles, etc. has been invaluable and I hope it continues. It was a great comfort to know he was around every week,” said Phelps. “I also would like to thank Chris Bird who volunteered countless hours running the most awesome website in the USCL, Boston-Blitz.com. And I can’t forget Phillip Nutzman, our official TD, ultra-reliable board two relayer and laptop lugging helper. Thanks Nut-man!”

“The Blitz also want to thank the USCL sponsors PokerStars.com, and the Massachusetts Chess Association for their generous team sponsorship. Many others contributed to the team; see the list of “Blitz Buddies” and “Blitz Backers” on the team’s home page. Most of all, thanks to all the fans who watched, blogged, critisized (!), and cheered us on.”

I think we should start a league that only allows players who’ve been sitting on their rating floor for a couple of years. I’m all over that.

I want to join Matt in thanking all the people involved in running the Blitz’s succesful operations. Firstly I would like to thank Matt himself without whom all this would not be possible. From the first time he was contacted by Greg in spring of 2005 with a seemingly strange and unknown offer to run a USCL team. He decided to try managing the the Boston team where others wanted nothing to do with it. It is not an easy task and it doesn’t pay, also you have to listen to a lot of morons who criticize you on various blogs because they seem to think it makes them “cool” or that they know everything…
However, despite that all that people on the “inside” know what a tremendous job he has done, securing an unbelievable playing location and getting togeather a truly great bunch of people who have proven once again that Boston is a superpower in the USCL. Also, I would like to thank assistant manager Mark LaRocca, who has also been with us since 2005, albeit before 2008 without an official title. Mark always came by to help relay or just to watch. Also many thanks to a trusted relayer, TD and a big Blitz fan, Philip Nutzman. It goes without saying that we owe big time to the creator of Boston-Blitz.com Chris Bird. Chris is well known in the US as a TD, but he was instrumental for us in a different capacity as he created and maintained a great website, took pictures, introduced live webcames and live Blitz TV, in other words he made the Boston Blitz into the most recongizable innovative and interesting USCL team. I thank him for devoting so much time to it and I truly hopes he sticks around.
Big thanks to our sponsors: Pokerstars.com and MACA and all others who made individual donations.
Of course, non of this would make any sense if we didnt have great fans. I want to thank all our fans for rooting for us all season long especially those who made the trip to see us live–I cannot underscore enough how important it is to see live fans. Thank you all very much and happy holidays.
